The little boy had been in the hospital for nine days. His mother had not left his side once. She had no money for the bill, no way to pay for his medication, and no one coming to help — until Hands United Against Poverty walked through that door.
We brought his medication. We sat with them. And when we helped cover the bill that had been suffocating his mother with anxiety, she grabbed our founder's hand and held it for a long time without speaking.
Her son was discharged three days later. Healthy. Smiling. Carrying a small bag of clothes we had brought him — because every child deserves to leave a hospital feeling like someone cared.
